It lies just north of the state capital of Raleigh, which is known as the "City of Oaks" for its many oak trees that line the streets of the city. In 2007, Wake Forest was listed by Forbes magazine as the 20th fastest growing suburb in American with a 73 percent increase in population between 2000 and 2006. Wake Forest has an extensive history, illustrated by the many historical locations within in the town. The DuBois Center, Bailey-Estes House, Downtown Wake Forest Historic District, Glen Royall Mill Village Historic District, and Lea Laboratory are all points of interest for residents and tourists alike. If you're uninterested in small town pursuits, Raleigh is right next door.
